I love Grey’s Anatomy but it is notorious for having outrageous plot points and killing off characters. However, it is still an incredibly successful and beloved show with over 15 seasons. It could however be argued that Grey’s has been going a little too long based on how crazy some of the things that happen are. But, I would consider myself definitely a fan and a rewatcher but I won’t deny there are some terrible plot points. For those McDreamy fans consider yourselves lucky because this time I won’t just bad mouth Derek the entire time, but if you want to see my thoughts on Derek check out this post:
But, without further ado, this is my list of the worst plot points on Grey’s Anatomy:
Lexi leaving –
I understand likely the actress chose to leave I just wish they hadn’t killed her and that there was an opportunity for her to come back in the future if she chose. Lexi was a really compelling character who made Meredith better, she made the people around her better. She was incredibly smart and kind and will probably forever be my all-time favourite character on Grey’s Anatomy.
Alex leaving Jo –
I can understand Alex wanting a family and such but I’m sure Jo would have given that to him. Alex was dating Jo for years, actual years they were together and mostly happy. He proposed to her several times, they lived together. Alex and Izzie dated briefly at different points, starting with him cheating on her and ending with her leaving him and apparently deciding she would just have his children anyway. They weren’t married because they were both ready to be married, they got married because Izzie was meant to die. Alex said he was done and she left and never spoke to any of them again. Meredith and Christina were Izzie’s friends too and she left them and didn’t look back. It is insanity that Alex would leave Jo to go be with Izzie and his children that she had without telling him after all Jo and Alex went through with her and her abusive ex-husband and DeLuca and Alex wanting to be married. He waited years.
That Alex and Jo survived so long before they got married – Alex proposed to Jo very early on at April and Matthew’s first wedding and then they decided no. Alex said to her multiple times over the next few years that he was ready and wanted to be married to her coming up to the point where he got a ring and got down on one knee and proposed. Jo said no she couldn’t marry him – fine, but then an entire year went by where Meredith had gone and had Ellis, a year after that and they were still having this same conversation about Alex wanting to be married and Jo saying yeah, maybe, no. Before finally telling Alex she had been previously married. It just doesn’t make sense. They broke up because he was ready to be married and she wasn’t and they just kept going in circles.
Amelia’s brain tumor –
You can’t just make up a brain tumor so that your character can do some strange things. Or, even worse, to explain all the strange things she has done for half of the show.
Who got to live and who got to die – So, obviously Grey’s is notorious for killing off characters however, lets remember those they didn’t kill. They didn’t kill, Burke, Christina, Izzie, Alex, April, Arizona, Penny. But they did kill, George, Lexi, Mark, Derek, Charles, Reed, (girl who got electrocuted), etc. My question is, why did they choose some of them to live and some to die. All those who were killed off are unable to make a decision to return to Greys and I just find it interesting. George’s character said he was going to the army that day and got hit by a bus and died. They could have just said he went and never came back, no drama. Lexi and Mark were two of my favourite characters and neither has the ability to return. However, the likes of Burke who was just a terrible guy and boring character could return.
Harper Avery awards –
Christina doesn’t win the Harper Avery award because of the sole reason she works at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital which the Harper Avery Foundation owns. Now, I do totally understand the reasoning they gave – however, Meredith wins a Harper Avery Award in season 14 whilst still working at Grey Sloan, whilst the foundation still owns it. So, for me that basically invalidates Christina not winning when she was unanimously voted for.
Every time they made a rule about inter-hospital relationships –
Countless times the hospital makes rules about not dating co-workers or disclosing dating for instance, we have, when Bailey is singled out as not needing a form. We also have when Jo and Alex pretend to break up because of the rules. When there are sexual harassment claims. Because, they just forgot about them every time they did it and brought in new procedures and forgot again. Also, there should be no way that interns (or even residents) should be having relationships with superiors because that is such an abuse of power.
“Don’t let them take my leg” –
Okay so I get some people may not feel like this but Arizona literally said let me die. Arizona tried to force her orthopedic surgeon wife to let her die rather than losing a leg. Then Callie saved her life and she used it to be spiteful and create so much boring drama between them because she was mad that Callie let them cut her leg off… to save her life. She lived and she treated Callie terribly for letting her live. Apparently, miss ray of sunshine Arizona would rather be dead than have a prosthetic and live with her loving wife and raise her daughter? Doesn’t work for me.
The shooter –
He went after Derek rather than those who had actually killed his wife, he went there to kill Derek but Derek had nothing to do with the actual case or why she died.
I really just don’t need to watch the last 2 years on TV. It isn’t over yet and they are already making it the center of TV shows. I don’t want to watch it, it is still happening. We are all still living it. People are still dying and I don’t care for it on TV. Knowing this was going to be the story line is the explicit reason I didn’t watch the season. Feels a bit in bad taste to me to run this story line now, when hundreds of thousands have died in America alone.
Let me know what you thought of all these plot points and whether you actually enjoy them. I am also open to doing a worst couples of Grey’s so comment if you would be interested in that. Thanks for reading, please follow my socials below to know when I upload.
I recently went with a friend to see The Conjuring 3 which was just released. I have also seen all of the movies in the conjuring franchise including La Llorona which I just found out happens in the same “universe”. But if we think about it really, there are 3 Annabelle movies so far, 3 Conjuring, The Nun and La Llarona.
Granted that is a lot of films but I love them. I will not pretend they are all good or that I don’t think there are ones you can skip. The friend I went with hadn’t seen all of the movies and I basically told her, I felt like you could either take or leave Annabelle, Annabelle comes home and The Nun. Even so, I would still watch them again (In fact I have re-watched most)
It seems to be a type of trend to create a successful franchise and make it go on too long, for instance, we also went and saw Spiral (the most recent in the Saw franchise), which seem to keep going despite quality in order to make money. Another example could be Star Wars or Star Trek… sorry. So, was The Conjuring one of these?
I don’t think so, while that is a lot of movies for 1 franchise to make and them all be connected, I think it is viable because there are somewhat based on true stories, there are consistent fresh stories and characters. I think this is important to not keep too close to the original plot. The Saw films, in my understanding are all basically about the killer brutally murdering people and using games. Whereas there are different demons, spirits and characters in The Conjuring.
I will admit, I liked it but it wasn’t my favourite of the movies, also wasn’t my least favourite (I think lots of people agree with that being The Nun). The new movie is different in they show a legal side, a court case, and there is satanic rituals occurring rather than just poltergeists. We also get to see more of the aftermath of a possession than just the during.
While we are on the subject of The Devil Made Me Do It, I thought I would talk about the scariest moment for me in the cinema. We were about halfway through the movie, being the only people in the showing and felt as though we had actually heard something real, that wasn’t in the film, we ignored it for a moment before looking up to see a woman standing right next to us who had accidentally walked into the wrong cinema. The pure shock of knowing you are the only ones watching a movie and looking up to see a woman standing right next to you is a lot. Very funny afterwards but truly shocking when it happened.
I love the film versions of the Warrens and although they change the original stories for theatrics, it is interesting knowing you can go and read these stories after.
Honestly, I don’t think the franchise has gone on too long, maybe we could leave Annabelle behind for a while but I would watch any movie they make at this point. I haven’t gotten tired of them. And maybe that is just because I love a good supernatural thriller or I am fascinated by the concept of ghosts and spirits. But in any case, I would watch anything they make, especially with Ed and Lorraine. Ed and Lorraine for me really light up these films. If you want a bit more back story on their love story check out the new Conjuring as we get a glimpse into their meeting.
Without Ed and Lorraine this franchise wouldn’t be what it is. I think that shows in the lack of success of The Nun and La Llorona which didn’t feature the Warrens. Maybe Annabelle is going too far, despite it’s connection to the Warren family, without Ed and Lorraine in the first two, it is missing something. Although, so long as the franchise continues following events in the Warren’s lives, they can probably easily keep making movies. But let’s make sure we learn from The Nun and not make them boring.
Thanks so much for reading, please let me know your thoughts or any suggestions for movies to watch like The Conjuring films. Don’t forge to check out my socials below.
Elite season 4 is set to be released soon so I figured some people may want a refresher but not actually want to watch the full 3 seasons over again. So, I’m here to remind you of everything to happen so far. So obviously, Elite is about a group of teens in a private school in Spain, however, there is a heck of a lot going on, murder, deception, drugs, corruption, betrayal. I previously wrote a post stating that all the characters are bad people, and I stand by that, but this was from a season 1 and 2 perspective. Either way,
If you want to see my earlier post about Elite check it out here
So, we begin Elite with Samu and Nadia who are set to start at a new school following a tragic “accident” at their previous school. They received a scholarship and promptly started at the prestigious school Las Encinas. We are introduced to all the other characters but most importantly Marina, the first victim.
Season 1 obviously centered around Marina’s death and who killed her. Marina and Carla’s families were involved in the accident at the public school. We find out that Polo killed Marina because he was trying to win Carla back and, Marina was trying to blackmail Carla’s family for Samu’s brother Nano (who she had begun dating). However, Polo gets away with this with Carla’s help. Nano is framed for the murder and he flees town to avoid arrest.
In season 2, Samu and Guzman set out to find out who really killed Marina, resulting in Samu forming a plan to fake his own disappearance. They find that Polo killed Marina and Carla is set to testify against him. Ander knew Polo killed Marina which causes a rift for Guzman and Ander.
Naturally things don’t quite go to plan and instead we have Carla back out because her father is the worst. Omar is living with Ander’s family as he struggles with Polo and Guzman. Omar still being on bad terms with his parents.
Once more, a murder occurs and we spend season 3 trying to figure out who had killed Polo. Ander finds out he has cancer which manages to bring him and Guzman back together somewhat. Rebeca’s story line is pretty boring the whole way through but her mother ended up in jail so she decided to take over the ‘family business’ and deal drugs. Cayetana also has nothing worthwhile going on except protecting Polo despite also knowing he is the murdered from season 1. Rebe and Samu started dating season 3 too which was unnecessary, especially, since Samu was very clearly in love with Carla the whole time.
Omar has been cheating on Ander which is just awful considering Ander has cancer and Omar literally lives with him and his mum. I find this so disrespectful and really out of character for Omar especially considering the guy he cheats with is dating Nadia at the time.
Finally, we find out that Lucrecia had killed Polo accidently, the rest of the friends all cover for her.
So, where did we leave off each of the characters?
Well, Lu is obviously a bit traumatized, Omar and Ander are still having their useless spat and I’m still waiting for a happy moment for Carla and Samu. I couldn’t be less interested in Rebeca, Cayetana or the other characters. I also just didn’t need the drug timeline. I wouldn’t be surprised if Samu’s brother returned but I also wouldn’t enjoy it.
It is very concerning seeing the promo images for season 4 suggesting a few of our favourite characters may not be returning for season 4 which would be really sad. However, I also saw that Elite is releasing ‘shorts’ to tell different stories, I am specifically intrigued by the Carla and Samu short.
So, what are you hoping to see this season? Will you be watching on June 18 when the new season airs?

Klaus is painted to be the big bad wolf in most of TVD, and granted he does some truly terrible things however he is such an interesting character. I think that is a big part of why they were able to create The Originals spin off, because all three of the Original siblings have so much depth of character. So let me explain why I love Klaus so dearly as a character.
Klaus is so compelling to the point where he is a villain that you can’t totally hate, he is so deeply flawed but we understand him so clearly. Klaus may be 1000 years old, but at heart he is still that little boy who’s father hated him and mother turned her back on him. Klaus longed for the love of his family and felt he would never have it or deserve it. This led to a multitude of trust issues which, you guessed it, are heightened as a vampire.
Klaus’s father hated him for being his illegitimate son, forcing him to spend him life with a piece of who he is (the werewolf side) being kept from him, his mother constantly tricks him when she comes back and doesn’t protect him. He is hated for being born. I know many people can understand and empathize with being forced to hide a piece of yourself because your family or society does not accept it.
*please note some links may be affiliate, I may make a small commission on purchases made through links*
Consistently, through the show, we see Klaus make growth and then feel betrayed or hurt but you can’t say he is heartless. Klaus does care for his family and siblings. He cares for Rebekah and Elijah and even Stefan. Also, it is so clear to see Klaus opens up around Caroline, almost only around Caroline but still. He shows her himself, though his paintings, stories, gestures. Which is why it hits so much harder each time she betrays him and causes him to lash out and revert back to being terrible and un-trusting, as he feels he doesn’t deserve the love of others so he will ensure they fear him. Even in ‘The Originals’ we see this go further with Klaus caring for Cami and his past relationship with Marcelle. He looked at Marcelle like a son, he cared for him, loved him, raised him and tried to give him a better life and family than he himself had, until he felt betrayed by Marcelle.
For instance, although Klaus constantly lashes out at his siblings and daggers them, he is not one to actually kill them. He values his family so greatly he trades anything he needs for them.
Also, we can see when Klaus does finally get to be fully entirely himself, all he really wants is to belong. He wants to make himself hybrids so he won’t be alone. Klaus is driven by his past trauma and trust issues, having your own parents try to kill you must really affect your emotional growth and I can get that. Klaus doesn’t want to be alone.
Klaus does terrible things but I find him so interesting to watch because he is so complex, more complex than Damon or Stefan or most any of the other characters. I also have to give Joseph credit for making me believe him and feel for Klaus through his acting.
We see so many moments of redemption such as, always coming when Caroline needs him but he also constantly falls off his redemption, which is honestly really human.
For me, the hallmark of a good TV villain is all of these things, depth of character, understanding why they are doing things, showing they aren’t inherently evil, humanizing them. Klaus ticks all these boxes for me and more.
Also, I have to say I’m a die hard Klauroline (Klaus + Caroline) stan.
I can’t explain it honestly. Although, I will say, watching Klaus meet Hope for the first time gave me so many emotions. All Klaus ever wanted was a family, people like him, Hope really was that. She was a ‘hybrid’ like him, she was his daughter, his family. And standing next to him was the woman who gave everything for the baby, her mother, Haley and the two members of Klaus’s family who loved him through it all. Klaus had his family standing right there.
So, what do you think? Did you love Klaus like me? Or was the murder too much for you? In any case, I believe Klaus was an incredibly well-written villain for this show and that this continued with other villains like Kai. All I want is character depth and growth and I feel like that’s what Klaus give me.

Spin offs a remakes seem to be the biggest thing lately because why ruin something that works I guess. But, do we really need all of these spin offs? The announcement was recently made about the How I Met Your Mother spin off, ‘How I Met Your Father’ which is set to star Hilary Duff so I thought now was the perfect time to discuss what spin offs are worth the watch and which to give a miss. I’m only going to go through the one’s I’ve seen or tried.
You can get DVDs of any of these at Sanity:
*some links may be affiliate*
This was one of the shows I watched with my dad growing up. We used to watch it all weekend when I was a young teenager and we watched all 10 seasons together. Memories 🙂 Hi Dad! If you haven’t seen it, basically, Stargate is about a magic alien “gate” discovered on earth by the US military which transports you across galaxies. They send out the SG1 team to different locations discovering there is a lot of dangerous stuff out there which would love to come to Earth. It is available on Stan and Sanity.
P.S. yes I know that this was technically a spin off for the original movie, but that is a movie so I consider SG1 the first of the shows.
Atlantis was the first spin off and took place entirely not on Earth, this was a previously unexplored part of the Universe to the US military. However, they manage to get trapped without contact to the Earth gate. I love Atlantis and I think it is somewhat more interesting than SG1 however that still has a special place in my heart. Definitely still check if out if you are into sci-fi.
I watched all of SG1 and Atlantis and couldn’t even get through season 1 of universe because everyone in it was so annoying. Just don’t bother.
Pretty Little Liars:
If you are on here you should know this is one of my all time favourite shows, but honestly, it’s spin offs kind of flopped. But if you want to read my PLL posts so far check them out below.
So, apparently not all the Pretty Little Liars fans know about Ravenswood. I watched it as it was airing because I love Hanna and Caleb and had to see what was going to happen to them during Caleb being the star of the spinoff.
I’m sure we all remember when Caleb went off the Ravenswood right after they found out Alison was alive and he met that random girl Miranda. Well they are the stars of Ravenswood with a few others and honestly it’s about ghosts. I don’t really vibe with shows that are like *there’s magic in this world and ghosts but not over there in rosewood but over here* (@Sabrina and Riverdale). So that kind of annoyed me and also they obviously broke Hanna and Caleb up while Ravenswood happened which sucks, and then they basically used It as a reason to ruin his character when he came back – Caleb was never the same. Basically, there’s a reason it got cancelled after 1 season. However, the plot also didn’t merit longer so I give it a miss.
Not worth the watch….
I haven’t watched the newest spin off of PLL so I can’t comment on it 🙂
The Vampire Diaries:
I think all of the late 90’s early 2000’s kids would agree that TVD is a pinnacle of television for the 2000’s/2010’s. I love it despite the definite cringe and I also think it’s got some good spin offs…
I haven’t seen all of The Originals but I do like it and I think the Originals are really interesting and complex characters so I like it, I just find it slow but I know lots of people love it. Sign up for my email notifications to see my upcoming Klaus Mikaelson post!
Also, we cannot ignore the exciting moments watching Pheobe Tonkin and Claire Holt from H20 on screen again together. But even more so, we also have the classic Aussies Eka Darville and Rebecca Breeds from Blue Water High (who actually happened to be on Cariba’s season of blue water high) and the wonder that is Danielle Campbell from Starstuck. Such a cast for my youth.
Legacies, however, I haven’t heard many people talk about and I am trying to get through the episodes on Binge. Legacies follows Alaric and the witch babies he had with Caroline (or his wife however you see it) at a school for supernatural kids. A bit random and one of those so bad it’s kind of good shows. So, I vibe with it because its basic and very teen-ish but of the three it is 100% the worst.
I think it is good fun and an easy watch.
Law and Order: Special Victims Unit
Technically SVU is a spin off of regular law and order and I think SVU is way better. However, I’m someone who loves SVU and Criminal Minds and all that but I know lots of people don’t vibe with watching lots of murder or abuse or rape but, I like SVU and Criminal minds. So, I highly rate SVU and would love to watch it start to finish! It’s also still airing which is fun. After 22 years!
Criminal Minds spin offs:
No, that’s all I have. No. Criminal minds is *chefs kiss* but I just can’t vibe with the cast of any of the other shows so no, don’t mess with perfection. They just don’t compare, I can’t even stand the episodes in Criminal Minds where they introduce the other “teams” from the spin offs. So, it’s a pass from me, just stick with original Criminal Minds.
I have just started watching Private Practice and it’s pretty decent honestly. I won’t say it is by any means as good as greys but I like it so far. Private Practice follows Addison after she left the show and moved to LA to work in, you guessed it, a private practice. Bit of a strange career move but hey, she needed a fresh start. So, I love Addison, that’s probably all you need to know, in the Derek, Meredith, Addison equation I’m team Addison (as in Addison deserves better). I think she is a great character and I always liked her, so if you didn’t, probably don’t watch the spin off. The first few seasons are on 7plus currently if you’re interested!
I have heard only good things about Private Practice and also, I love Amelia and Addison as characters so if you did too then give it a go to see more of Amelia’s story before she moved to Greys
Station 19 takes a different turn and is about the firefighters who work in Seattle and bring cases to Grey Sloan Memorial. It is the show Ben moved to and I really like it. I think by it being about fire fighters rather than medicine gave them more reign to try some new things and make something different. I think it is great honestly and I don’t even think you need to watch greys to watch either of these spin offs.
I think they gave the characters a good degree of depth, likeability and the calls they go to are exciting just like Greys. We also see a little cross over in the later seasons of Greys.
The Carrie Diaries:
So I was at uni recently and one of my friends mentioned The Carrie Diaries and it just brought forward all these memories of a show I had completely forgotten about. The Carrie Diaries for those who didn’t see it, is the prequal to sex in the city where Carrie Bradshaw is in high school and trying to start her career in fashion. I haven’t actually seen sex in the city and I loved the Carrie Diaries and it’s a shame it didn’t last super long. I have no idea where you can watch it currently but if you see the opportunity I say go for it. If you’re into teen shows it actually a really good one.
Let me know if you have any spin off recommendations and what you think of the idea of ‘How I Met Your Father’ with Hilary Duff. I wonder why they made it a spin off, it definitely didn’t need to be. Check out my socials down below and like, share or comment if you liked this post. Thanks so much for the views while I took a break from uploading, hope to be back on the grind of it soon.
As we all know, Ginny and Georgia was released on Netflix recently and has gained a surprising amount of buzz. Mainly stemming from Mr. tap dancing it’s Friday with the man bun. But in case you missed it. Ginny and Georgia centers around a family who moves around a lot. Georgia (who’s birth name is in fact, not Georgia) was a teen mum who got pregnant and had Ginny (or Virginia) when she was around 16. She has a very difficult life before pulling herself out and trying to make a good life for Ginny and her son as a single parent. So, yes, the similarity is definitely there, and they do in fact make reference to being Gilmore Girls, which is an interesting angle. Yes, it is obvious but still such a bold move to call yourself out for being a rip off. Anyway, Georgia is a particularly resourceful woman who moves her family to a new town and we get to see them adjust. SO, here is my comparison of Ginny and Georgia and Gilmore Girls.
So firstly, let’s just talk about how many “similarities” there are between the two. We can’t ignore the alliterated GG of Gilmore Girls and Ginny and Georgia, a bit suspicious. Teen pregnancy. Angsty teens, new school, small town, dad who is half in the picture, the 1 local restaurant with a flannel wearing man. Estranged grandparents. Wow, kind of an aggressive rip off but anyway. Multiple love triangles, because where would television be without love triangles. Anywho, here is the corresponding characters:
*please note some links may be affiliate, I may make a small commission on purchases made through links*
Character comparison time:
Ginny is very Rory. They are both just so annoying and bitchy. Their plot lines kind of follow Mean Girls two with them progressively becoming worse and worse. They also both can be really disrespectful and rude to their mums. We do not accept disrespect towards Georgia or Lorrelai. Ginny moves to a new school, making new friends and dating boys for the first time. Granted I like Ginny less than Rory but they are still an obvious copy.
I mean Lorelai is also obviously Georgia including little romance with the guy who works at the local hang out place (diner could we say). We also have the very clear teen mom thing and the homelessness. Estranged parents. Georgia is the light of this show and I feel the same towards Lorelai. They both have unhealthy ties with their exes/ fathers of their children.
I’m gonna say Maxine is Paris purely because she is so neurotic, or she could be like a cross between Maxine and Abby? Anyway, Paris gives off a definite bi energy about her and Max is gay. But that is probably where the comparison ends.
Luke is clearly Joe. I mean, look at these two pictures, my god.
Man who runs the local hang out place, has a long standing crush on our main gal, sarcastic, and watches her date other men rather than just saying he loves her. It’s okay Joe, I’m sure there will be light for you in season 2 if they make one.
But, does that make Peter, any of Lorrelai’s boyfriends. I guess we will go with Max though, the good guy who she easily could’ve ended up with but also we like diner boys. Proposes very quickly, we know it won’t work out.
We have a very clear similarity with Christopher and Zion. Both swing in and out of the girls lives, Christopher is constantly with Lorelai and not with her and making very confusing times for everyone, they really copied this with Zion. Even down to the begs to get married and claims of change. The motorcycle is a dead give away. Parents who disapprove of the woman who got pregnant by their son. It’s like practically word for word copied.
So kid next door must be Jess. I mean, bad boy, doesn’t want a girlfriend, messing with her and her relationship. Even motorbike crash/car crash comparisons…. Also they do kind of look alike…
But I would feel terrible calling Hunter, Dean or Logan. Maybe he’s Rory’s fiance in the a year in the life season… because she does constantly forget they are dating. Also cheating but hey. I know people hate Hunter but he isn’t a bad guy, I have more respect for him than Ginny, that’s for sure.
There isn’t really a clear Lane to me, I suppose it has to be Max again but purely on closeness to Ginny, not a very good comparison though.
Her co-worker is clearly Michel. I hope I don’t need to explain this but her coworker has the same no nonsense attitude. Also is the main co-worker of Georgia.
If Max is Lane does that mean Sophie is Matt Brody before he joined The OC?
Taylor is Cynthia because he gets a bit too political and is always harassing people and getting in everybody’s business. Although, I hope we see a bit more of her story in a future season as they hinted to there being a lot more going on below the surface.
So, is it a rip off, I mean yes. I would be lying if I said no. I still enjoyed watching it and it brought forth a lot of issues particularly surrounding racism, however, it is a copy. I don’t think acknowledging it is a copy negates the problems with that fact. However, I absolutely love Georgia, I love Joe and I would definitely watch another season. They did bring a different kind of comedy forward too through Georgia and her con-artist ways. So definitely check it out if you like Gilmore Girls or even if you don’t, I personally don’t love Gilmore Girls but I did enjoy this and I think some of the issues they discuss are important and while “oppression Olympics” was maybe not an ideal scene, the points raised are really important.

They made Rory an even worse character all together which is funny cause her last few seasons were already questionable. Also, does every show need a spin off, no, but if we are talking more Gilmore Girls tell me why it isn’t about Lorelai. They created this beautiful story around her coming to a quaint town after things with her parents were bad and she began as a maid working in an inn and looking after baby Lorelai (Rory).
We know Lorelai became estranged from her parents, effectively running away.
From all this she makes incredible friends like Sookie and Luke and find a true home for herself and her daughter. But is still deeply estranged from her parents. So, I want to see what happened! I want to watch Lorrelai begin her life as a teenager with a daughter, see her struggles with Christopher over the years, see her grow in rank at the hotel, meet Luke and all the towns folk.
Even show Rory and Lane meeting? To me, that sounds like such a cute show.
I mean, maybe I’m biased because I love Lorelai, but I am sick of Rory, granted I never really liked her but I think the real success story is Lorelai finding her place, mending things with her parents, being the best mother she could. Going to business school and opening the Inn her and Sookie have dreamed about for years. Lorelai is all I need. I mean tiny Rory would be cute too but i really think Lorelai has so much more depth she could bring in her young years.
So I don’t know about y’all but that is the spin off I want to watch. None of this year in the life stuff, not Ginny and Georgia. I want to see the strong woman who becomes the Lorelai we know, make herself, get through, start a life for herself on her own.

Dance Academy is an Australian teen drama which first aired in 2010, ran for 3 seasons and one movie which made it into Australian Cinemas. Dance Academy follows the lives of a group of teens attending the National Academy of Dance in Sydney. These kids were primed to join the Australian Ballet Company once they graduated if they were the best few. It is currently on Netflix if you’re interested in checking it out or re-watching! I grew up watching Dance Academy, it made me want to be a dancer or an athlete. However, I think it was a bit late for any of that.
So, here are all the things that I think make Dance Academy so great to this day and make me able to still enjoy it 10 years later.
Despite the actual ‘elite’ talent of the teens and their living away from home, Dance Academy is incredibly realistic to the teen experience. They show young teens making stupid mistakes over and over. It represents the real issues of eating disorders in teens, explores sexuality, cheating, hard work. Kat even has an identity crisis which I think is incredibly relatable to many teens who may discover they aren’t as about sure what they want to do after school than they once were, or realize that they don’t know at all. Kat portrayed this in her move away from dance before she returned realizing her passion and working hard to get where she wanted to be.
Dance Academy also dealt with illness and grief. Ben is a cancer survivor who in the movie has a ‘relapse’ and has to come to terms with his limits. The loss of their friend, Sammy honestly broke me and still hurts me when I watch it.
It talks about familial expectations and how hard they can push one. Working your way through school to support oneself. Sammy has a real struggle with his family throughout the whole show.
It also takes a hard look at how complicated friendships are in teen years and how hard it can be to know who your real friends are.
Body image issues and eating disorders need to be explored more in teen shows because it is such a common problem and Dance Academy did that. They looked at eating disorders and body image in elite athletes.
It also tackles crime with Christian’s past and upbringing in that world and Abigail’s shoplifting. They showed sexual assault as well.
Another realistic portrayal they presented was athletes and injury, athletes get injured often and keep going through the pain, this is exactly what happens in the show and it also presents how detrimental this can be for athletes.
Additionally, it portrays financial hardship, both Sam and Tara need a scholarship to keep attending because neither Sammy on his own or Tara’s family can afford to send them to the Academy.
Another important aspect for me about Dance Academy is, the actors they chose could genuinely dance. As opposed to other shows like Blue Water High (no shade) where actors are chosen as actors but can’t actually do the exact thing their character does. All of these actors were athletes. There was no need for stunt doubles or cutting scenes to avoid the face of the actor.
I also just feel like there is something so pure about the portrayal of the age group. While they aren’t incredibly young they also aren’t in their late teens which means that there are some cringey embarrassing moments and a lot of personal growth and self discovery. Had they set the ages as older the show would likely have revolved largely around bitchyness and sex but they chose teens who were still largely children. So yes, there is some crime in Dance Academy but I think that is so genuine to the age group, unlike shows like ‘Never Have I Ever’ (check out my thoughts on it here https://simplymythoughts.blog/2020/08/29/never-have-i-ever-been-less-impressed/), the cringe is so normal, its teens acting like teens worried about pimples and if the boy likes them.
Dance Academy showed that with hard work you can reach above and beyond. Tara began her time at the academy as one of the worst trained dancers in her year and became one of the best through hard work and determination. However, it isn’t unrealistic about how having a dream isn’t always enough especially as an athlete.
Keiynan Lonsdale also came from Dance Academy – you may recognize him from The Flash, Love Simon or Work It.
Honestly, the movie really didn’t disappoint me, I feel like I was prepared to be a little disappointed by it because when it came out I was 17 and following up 5 years after the end of Dance Academy, I was worried. But it really didn’t disappoint me, I feel like the movie in a way grew up with the original audience showing them working in the industry and the issues they’re still facing. The only disappointing part for me was how little Christian was in it, but, at least he came back. Almost all of the original cast came back for the reunion movie which I think is great. I also think it was quite exciting to be able to watch the movie on a cinema screen with the Dolby Atmos sound.
So, to sum up, I believe Dance Academy stood the test of time over my youth. I think it was super well done and showcased a lot of issues in a relatable and realistic way. Also, I love dance and any dance movies or tv shows so that was exciting. And we gotta support the Aussie television industry somehow. Don’t forget you can watch Dance Academy on Netflix now!

So, grand Army came out a long time ago and I hardly heard anyone talking about it, so I finally checked it out on Netflix recently. I was definitely surprised but what I was faced with and had not at all expected it. For me this was a very clear case of judging a show by its cover image, and I was way off!
Grand Army is about a school in New York and a set of kids at this school, but it is a little dark. Not in the regular sense of a dark show, I feel like Grand Army is unapologetic in showing all of the worst aspects of high school. Particularly in America.
Some themes which are discussed include; friendship, selfishness, racism, sexism, feminism, terrorism, rape and sexual assault, religion, sexuality, class, poverty, pressure on women, victim blaming and more. In only a few episodes.
For me though, the most influential character was Joey who starts as a very confident woman trying to support women’s rights at their school, going against dress code norms and being confident in her body, sexuality and herself. However, this character later goes through a turmoil with rape, losing all her friends and going through the criminal process as a victim. I feel like her acting was incredibly compelling through this show.
We see her come to lose confidence in her body, her memories and her personality at points, she moves to shroud herself in clothing. A woman who stood up in her school for non sexist dress codes and free the nip. We watch her lose herself entirely for a time.
While the other stories are also important and well done, hers had the most impact to me, however they all did impact me in one way or another. But I wouldn’t want to spoil the whole show for you!
Although, I have to admit, I hated this girl so much and I hated the amount of screen time she got!
So, is Grand Army an enjoyable show? No not really, but I think the messages are very important and they didn’t totally shy away from the worst of a high school experience. You can learn things from every character. I also feel like there is a character that we can all probably relate to.
So I do 100 percent recommend Grand Army but it is nothing like I was expecting and it can be difficult to watch at points. Because they chose honesty. I think more shows should be more honest about these issues rather than recycling the same ideals and the same way to approach issues.
It is a very confronting show a times but, that added to the realism for me. So, if you have a chance, please do check it out and let me know what you think!

As I wrote this post I was feeling incredibly discouraged. I try to keep this space fun and full of jokes even if it is often negative. I enjoy critiquing shows and telling you how I feel. For those who don’t know, Facebook and the Australian government were recently in talks about whether Facebook should pay Aussie news outlets to show their articles and videos. This resulted in a flat ban of news on Australian Facebook. However, it appears this was not done in a fair way for others. The impacts of this decision reach further. I am a small blogger. I recognize my reach is not far and I cannot stand at this point on my own. I have made countless Facebook ads to reach a wider audience and be able to share my content. However, I was stopped from doing this. My independent blog on TV shows has been blocked as a part of the ban. I am told that Facebook has agreed to take this back, but that does not change the impact to me or give me any comfort.
I am a creator with just over 30 Facebook followers, approximately 120 Instagram and 180 TikTok followers. But I am now unable to post my blogs on Facebook because they considered me under the news ban. As of today this is still true.
I have spent since August 2020 consistently writing blogs posting at least 1 a week. This will be my 33th post. I have spent my own money during this time on getting my domain and website, making ads, getting graphics etc. I have poured hours into creating every post for you guys. To date I have not made a single cent on this blog, which is fine. You may see my posts as only a few minutes read, but for me there is hours and hours behind finding every image, watching the shows to find what to write, re-watching to make sure I’m not missing things, skimming whole seasons at a time of shows, finding images, editing and sharing to social media. All while I am a full time student getting my degree. The majority of my views come from Facebook. I feel as though this ban has incredibly impacted me and my ability to create and share my content. I recognize I can maintain use of my other social media platforms but those have proven less effective for me.
While I write these blogs for myself, having not made a single cent on it, I want to share them, I want other people to be able to read them and this just has me concerned and confused. I am not a news outlet, but I had been blocked which made me, unable to grow. All creators want their audience to grow, they want to share and reach people.
I want to make these blogs, I write them because I enjoy it and I hope other people enjoy them too. It can just be very discouraging knowing my work building up a Facebook page and spending this money is going backward.
This really has me wondering what my next steps will be…
So what can you do to help?
It would greatly help me if any of you who read my posts, follow my TikTok, Facebook or Instagram could follow my blog with your email down below. This will mean if I upload you will receive an email with a link and with the entire post in the email which can be read from there. You do not have to read all of them, you can ignore them but by following I know my audience is getting notified about my posts. It would really support me if you would consider signing up to emails. The same goes for other small creators you may occasionally watch, view or read their stuff. Supporting them is the most secure way for them to create.
I am extremely glad that Facebook and the Aussie Government were able to come to an agreement, however, following directly via email will ensure that if issues persist in the future I will still be able to reach readers.
Thank you to everyone who had supported and continues to support me and this blog. I will be keeping it going but I will have to think about whether there are more beneficial platforms or formats for these blogs. Thank you especially to those on Monday who supported me while I found out my platform had been blocked and shared my annoyance and outrage.
