Worst Grey’s plot points

Netflix, Uncategorized

I love Grey’s Anatomy but it is notorious for having outrageous plot points and killing off characters. However, it is still an incredibly successful and beloved show with over 15 seasons. It could however be argued that Grey’s has been going a little too long based on how crazy some of the things that happen are. But, I would consider myself definitely a fan and a rewatcher but I won’t deny there are some terrible plot points. For those McDreamy fans consider yourselves lucky because this time I won’t just bad mouth Derek the entire time, but if you want to see my thoughts on Derek check out this post:

But, without further ado, this is my list of the worst plot points on Grey’s Anatomy:

Lexi leaving –

I understand likely the actress chose to leave I just wish they hadn’t killed her and that there was an opportunity for her to come back in the future if she chose. Lexi was a really compelling character who made Meredith better, she made the people around her better. She was incredibly smart and kind and will probably forever be my all-time favourite character on Grey’s Anatomy.

Alex leaving Jo –

I can understand Alex wanting a family and such but I’m sure Jo would have given that to him. Alex was dating Jo for years, actual years they were together and mostly happy. He proposed to her several times, they lived together. Alex and Izzie dated briefly at different points, starting with him cheating on her and ending with her leaving him and apparently deciding she would just have his children anyway. They weren’t married because they were both ready to be married, they got married because Izzie was meant to die. Alex said he was done and she left and never spoke to any of them again. Meredith and Christina were Izzie’s friends too and she left them and didn’t look back. It is insanity that Alex would leave Jo to go be with Izzie and his children that she had without telling him after all Jo and Alex went through with her and her abusive ex-husband and DeLuca and Alex wanting to be married. He waited years.

That Alex and Jo survived so long before they got married – Alex proposed to Jo very early on at April and Matthew’s first wedding and then they decided no. Alex said to her multiple times over the next few years that he was ready and wanted to be married to her coming up to the point where he got a ring and got down on one knee and proposed. Jo said no she couldn’t marry him – fine, but then an entire year went by where Meredith had gone and had Ellis, a year after that and they were still having this same conversation about Alex wanting to be married and Jo saying yeah, maybe, no. Before finally telling Alex she had been previously married. It just doesn’t make sense. They broke up because he was ready to be married and she wasn’t and they just kept going in circles.

Amelia’s brain tumor –

You can’t just make up a brain tumor so that your character can do some strange things. Or, even worse, to explain all the strange things she has done for half of the show.

Who got to live and who got to die – So, obviously Grey’s is notorious for killing off characters however, lets remember those they didn’t kill. They didn’t kill, Burke, Christina, Izzie, Alex, April, Arizona, Penny. But they did kill, George, Lexi, Mark, Derek, Charles, Reed, (girl who got electrocuted), etc. My question is, why did they choose some of them to live and some to die. All those who were killed off are unable to make a decision to return to Greys and I just find it interesting. George’s character said he was going to the army that day and got hit by a bus and died. They could have just said he went and never came back, no drama. Lexi and Mark were two of my favourite characters and neither has the ability to return. However, the likes of Burke who was just a terrible guy and boring character could return.

Harper Avery awards –

Christina doesn’t win the Harper Avery award because of the sole reason she works at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital which the Harper Avery Foundation owns. Now, I do totally understand the reasoning they gave – however, Meredith wins a Harper Avery Award in season 14 whilst still working at Grey Sloan, whilst the foundation still owns it. So, for me that basically invalidates Christina not winning when she was unanimously voted for.

Every time they made a rule about inter-hospital relationships –

Countless times the hospital makes rules about not dating co-workers or disclosing dating for instance, we have, when Bailey is singled out as not needing a form. We also have when Jo and Alex pretend to break up because of the rules. When there are sexual harassment claims. Because, they just forgot about them every time they did it and brought in new procedures and forgot again. Also, there should be no way that interns (or even residents) should be having relationships with superiors because that is such an abuse of power.

“Don’t let them take my leg” –

Okay so I get some people may not feel like this but Arizona literally said let me die. Arizona tried to force her orthopedic surgeon wife to let her die rather than losing a leg. Then Callie saved her life and she used it to be spiteful and create so much boring drama between them because she was mad that Callie let them cut her leg off… to save her life. She lived and she treated Callie terribly for letting her live. Apparently, miss ray of sunshine Arizona would rather be dead than have a prosthetic and live with her loving wife and raise her daughter? Doesn’t work for me.

The shooter –

He went after Derek rather than those who had actually killed his wife, he went there to kill Derek but Derek had nothing to do with the actual case or why she died.

Covid –

I really just don’t need to watch the last 2 years on TV. It isn’t over yet and they are already making it the center of TV shows. I don’t want to watch it, it is still happening. We are all still living it. People are still dying and I don’t care for it on TV. Knowing this was going to be the story line is the explicit reason I didn’t watch the season. Feels a bit in bad taste to me to run this story line now, when hundreds of thousands have died in America alone.

Let me know what you thought of all these plot points and whether you actually enjoy them. I am also open to doing a worst couples of Grey’s so comment if you would be interested in that. Thanks for reading, please follow my socials below to know when I upload.

Is the Conjuring franchise going on too long…

Movies, Netflix, Uncategorized

I recently went with a friend to see The Conjuring 3 which was just released. I have also seen all of the movies in the conjuring franchise including La Llorona which I just found out happens in the same “universe”. But if we think about it really, there are 3 Annabelle movies so far, 3 Conjuring, The Nun and La Llarona.

Granted that is a lot of films but I love them. I will not pretend they are all good or that I don’t think there are ones you can skip. The friend I went with hadn’t seen all of the movies and I basically told her, I felt like you could either take or leave Annabelle, Annabelle comes home and The Nun. Even so, I would still watch them again (In fact I have re-watched most)

It seems to be a type of trend to create a successful franchise and make it go on too long, for instance, we also went and saw Spiral (the most recent in the Saw franchise), which seem to keep going despite quality in order to make money. Another example could be Star Wars or Star Trek… sorry. So, was The Conjuring one of these?

I don’t think so, while that is a lot of movies for 1 franchise to make and them all be connected, I think it is viable because there are somewhat based on true stories, there are consistent fresh stories and characters. I think this is important to not keep too close to the original plot. The Saw films, in my understanding are all basically about the killer brutally murdering people and using games. Whereas there are different demons, spirits and characters in The Conjuring.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

I will admit, I liked it but it wasn’t my favourite of the movies, also wasn’t my least favourite (I think lots of people agree with that being The Nun). The new movie is different in they show a legal side, a court case, and there is satanic rituals occurring rather than just poltergeists. We also get to see more of the aftermath of a possession than just the during.

While we are on the subject of The Devil Made Me Do It, I thought I would talk about the scariest moment for me in the cinema. We were about halfway through the movie, being the only people in the showing and felt as though we had actually heard something real, that wasn’t in the film, we ignored it for a moment before looking up to see a woman standing right next to us who had accidentally walked into the wrong cinema. The pure shock of knowing you are the only ones watching a movie and looking up to see a woman standing right next to you is a lot. Very funny afterwards but truly shocking when it happened.

I love the film versions of the Warrens and although they change the original stories for theatrics, it is interesting knowing you can go and read these stories after.

Honestly, I don’t think the franchise has gone on too long, maybe we could leave Annabelle behind for a while but I would watch any movie they make at this point. I haven’t gotten tired of them. And maybe that is just because I love a good supernatural thriller or I am fascinated by the concept of ghosts and spirits. But in any case, I would watch anything they make, especially with Ed and Lorraine. Ed and Lorraine for me really light up these films. If you want a bit more back story on their love story check out the new Conjuring as we get a glimpse into their meeting.

Without Ed and Lorraine this franchise wouldn’t be what it is. I think that shows in the lack of success of The Nun and La Llorona which didn’t feature the Warrens. Maybe Annabelle is going too far, despite it’s connection to the Warren family, without Ed and Lorraine in the first two, it is missing something. Although, so long as the franchise continues following events in the Warren’s lives, they can probably easily keep making movies. But let’s make sure we learn from The Nun and not make them boring.

Thanks so much for reading, please let me know your thoughts or any suggestions for movies to watch like The Conjuring films. Don’t forge to check out my socials below.

ginny and georgia, gilmore girls

So Ginny and Georgia wants to liken themselves to Gilmore Girls; lets see shall we…

Netflix, Uncategorized

Welcome back!

As we all know, Ginny and Georgia was released on Netflix recently and has gained a surprising amount of buzz. Mainly stemming from Mr. tap dancing it’s Friday with the man bun. But in case you missed it. Ginny and Georgia centers around a family who moves around a lot. Georgia (who’s birth name is in fact, not Georgia) was a teen mum who got pregnant and had Ginny (or Virginia) when she was around 16. She has a very difficult life before pulling herself out and trying to make a good life for Ginny and her son as a single parent. So, yes, the similarity is definitely there, and they do in fact make reference to being Gilmore Girls, which is an interesting angle. Yes, it is obvious but still such a bold move to call yourself out for being a rip off. Anyway, Georgia is a particularly resourceful woman who moves her family to a new town and we get to see them adjust. SO, here is my comparison of Ginny and Georgia and Gilmore Girls.

So firstly, let’s just talk about how many “similarities” there are between the two. We can’t ignore the alliterated GG of Gilmore Girls and Ginny and Georgia, a bit suspicious. Teen pregnancy. Angsty teens, new school, small town, dad who is half in the picture, the 1 local restaurant with a flannel wearing man. Estranged grandparents. Wow, kind of an aggressive rip off but anyway. Multiple love triangles, because where would television be without love triangles. Anywho, here is the corresponding characters:

*please note some links may be affiliate, I may make a small commission on purchases made through links*

Character comparison time:

Ginny is very Rory. They are both just so annoying and bitchy. Their plot lines kind of follow Mean Girls two with them progressively becoming worse and worse. They also both can be really disrespectful and rude to their mums. We do not accept disrespect towards Georgia or Lorrelai. Ginny moves to a new school, making new friends and dating boys for the first time. Granted I like Ginny less than Rory but they are still an obvious copy.

I mean Lorelai is also obviously Georgia including little romance with the guy who works at the local hang out place (diner could we say). We also have the very clear teen mom thing and the homelessness. Estranged parents. Georgia is the light of this show and I feel the same towards Lorelai. They both have unhealthy ties with their exes/ fathers of their children.

I’m gonna say Maxine is Paris purely because she is so neurotic, or she could be like a cross between Maxine and Abby? Anyway, Paris gives off a definite bi energy about her and Max is gay. But that is probably where the comparison ends.

Luke is clearly Joe. I mean, look at these two pictures, my god.

Man who runs the local hang out place, has a long standing crush on our main gal, sarcastic, and watches her date other men rather than just saying he loves her. It’s okay Joe, I’m sure there will be light for you in season 2 if they make one.

Shop at Sanity for DVDs, Blu-Rays, CDs & Merch!

But, does that make Peter, any of Lorrelai’s boyfriends. I guess we will go with Max though, the good guy who she easily could’ve ended up with but also we like diner boys. Proposes very quickly, we know it won’t work out.

We have a very clear similarity with Christopher and Zion. Both swing in and out of the girls lives, Christopher is constantly with Lorelai and not with her and making very confusing times for everyone, they really copied this with Zion. Even down to the begs to get married and claims of change. The motorcycle is a dead give away. Parents who disapprove of the woman who got pregnant by their son. It’s like practically word for word copied.

So kid next door must be Jess. I mean, bad boy, doesn’t want a girlfriend, messing with her and her relationship. Even motorbike crash/car crash comparisons…. Also they do kind of look alike…

But I would feel terrible calling Hunter, Dean or Logan. Maybe he’s Rory’s fiance in the a year in the life season… because she does constantly forget they are dating. Also cheating but hey. I know people hate Hunter but he isn’t a bad guy, I have more respect for him than Ginny, that’s for sure.

There isn’t really a clear Lane to me, I suppose it has to be Max again but purely on closeness to Ginny, not a very good comparison though.

Her co-worker is clearly Michel. I hope I don’t need to explain this but her coworker has the same no nonsense attitude. Also is the main co-worker of Georgia.

If Max is Lane does that mean Sophie is Matt Brody before he joined The OC?

Taylor is Cynthia because he gets a bit too political and is always harassing people and getting in everybody’s business. Although, I hope we see a bit more of her story in a future season as they hinted to there being a lot more going on below the surface.

So, is it a rip off, I mean yes. I would be lying if I said no. I still enjoyed watching it and it brought forth a lot of issues particularly surrounding racism, however, it is a copy. I don’t think acknowledging it is a copy negates the problems with that fact. However, I absolutely love Georgia, I love Joe and I would definitely watch another season. They did bring a different kind of comedy forward too through Georgia and her con-artist ways. So definitely check it out if you like Gilmore Girls or even if you don’t, I personally don’t love Gilmore Girls but I did enjoy this and I think some of the issues they discuss are important and while “oppression Olympics” was maybe not an ideal scene, the points raised are really important.

grand army

‘Grand Army’ is worth the watch!

Netflix, Uncategorized

So, grand Army came out a long time ago and I hardly heard anyone talking about it, so I finally checked it out on Netflix recently. I was definitely surprised but what I was faced with and had not at all expected it. For me this was a very clear case of judging a show by its cover image, and I was way off!

Grand Army is about a school in New York and a set of kids at this school, but it is a little dark. Not in the regular sense of a dark show, I feel like Grand Army is unapologetic in showing all of the worst aspects of high school. Particularly in America.

Some themes which are discussed include; friendship, selfishness, racism, sexism, feminism, terrorism, rape and sexual assault, religion, sexuality, class, poverty, pressure on women, victim blaming and more. In only a few episodes.

Movies, Music, TV Shows - Shop Online For Great Sales and Fast Delivery.

For me though, the most influential character was Joey who starts as a very confident woman trying to support women’s rights at their school, going against dress code norms and being confident in her body, sexuality and herself. However, this character later goes through a turmoil with rape, losing all her friends and going through the criminal process as a victim. I feel like her acting was incredibly compelling through this show.

We see her come to lose confidence in her body, her memories and her personality at points, she moves to shroud herself in clothing. A woman who stood up in her school for non sexist dress codes and free the nip. We watch her lose herself entirely for a time.

While the other stories are also important and well done, hers had the most impact to me, however they all did impact me in one way or another. But I wouldn’t want to spoil the whole show for you!

Although, I have to admit, I hated this girl so much and I hated the amount of screen time she got!

So, is Grand Army an enjoyable show? No not really, but I think the messages are very important and they didn’t totally shy away from the worst of a high school experience. You can learn things from every character. I also feel like there is a character that we can all probably relate to.

So I do 100 percent recommend Grand Army but it is nothing like I was expecting and it can be difficult to watch at points. Because they chose honesty. I think more shows should be more honest about these issues rather than recycling the same ideals and the same way to approach issues.

It is a very confronting show a times but, that added to the realism for me. So, if you have a chance, please do check it out and let me know what you think!

TV couples who ruin shows for me…

Movies, Netflix, pretty little liars, Uncategorized

Last week we had a romance movie post, this week we are swinging back the opposite direction. TV Couples who ruins shows for me. Because look, not all couples are meant to be and lots of them are toxic on TV. Sometimes, it is better to be alone than with someone, if they are the wrong person. So, here is my list of most (not all), couples who I hate on TV. May we all remember the wonderful friends and family members in our lives this Galentine’s day. Shout-out to all the people who support me and this blog!

*disclaimer, not all of these are necessarily couples but fan favs.

In no particular order…

Duncan Kane and Veronica Mars

I know I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, Duncan Kane is so boring, he just seems like a child. He acts like a child the whole time and he is way too boring for Veronica. I was so glad when he left the show. Moreover, they both believed they were siblings, he believed it before they slept together, which is just disgusting, but she also believed it later. How do you date again after that?

yucky…

Veronica and Piz

If you can’t tell, I love Veronica Mars as a show, I really do, just man, everyone except Logan was a bit boring. Piz was especially boring, it felt like they were trying to give Piz and inch because he was resident nice guy, but he wasn’t that nice, he was boring and she had way more chemistry with Logan. I know her and Logan are super toxic but I can’t.

Betty and Archie

I just don’t like how Archie never saw Betty in that way, she put herself out there saying she loved him then he rejected her and dated countless other girls, then Betty found happiness for years with Jughead and they just make sense together. Even a whiff of Betty and Archie made me completely stop watching Riverdale. They couldn’t just stay best friends? She and Jughead couldn’t just move forward without bringing Archie back into the mix. Also, “I will never be good enough for you Betty” or whatever he said in the pilot feels like such a cop out to me.

Callie and Brandon

Brandon seemed to Callie like an easy way to self-destruct. She constantly turned to him any time she felt things were going too well or a small inconvenience happened she would turn to him. They were trying to be siblings, they lived together as siblings for years, It never should have happened.

Every time there was a problem with her being adopted she would go back to Brandon and date him or have sex with him or whatever, which only makes everything perpetually worse. Callie was the most self destructive character I personally have seen but Brandon was just along for the ride it seemed. They never even really made sense to start with, he was in a relationship when they met, there was no reason he had to ‘fall for Callie’. Just bad vibes all around for me.

Finn and Rachael

Sorry but they are both just too boring. Finn is the same as Duncan where he seems too much like a child and Rachel is so annoying. Finn also just didn’t respect her at the start of the show. I don’t know, maybe they get better later in the show and grow as people, but in the beginning when they dated the first few times it was terrible.

Miranda Bailey and nurse Eli

She could’ve had Ben that whole time but went for the young “attractive” asshole of a nurse. Who made her do so many things which she would never have done. Eli was like a vacation from who Miranda was, he made what he thought more important than what she thought.

I really never felt like their relationship was organic, it seemed like he was pushing her constantly and she was acting like a teenager. We all know it was just an excuse to create tension with Ben before they got back together so…

Rory and Jess

I know lots of people love Rory and Jess but I just don’t, but more on that in a dedicated post coming soon…

Sorry but, having similar interests doesn’t mean you are a good match or good people.

Iris and Barry

I’m sorry I just don’t gel with the whole, one best friend always loved the other and they never saw them, until, they did. Iris got engaged to another man and it took her finding out Barry was flash to be into him (also her fiance dying but, regardless), I just don’t love it. They grew up together and she never saw him. There are so many plot issues which revolve around, Iris not loving Barry and its just too much.

Clary and Jace

Look, I think if you hear that you’re siblings than even finding out you aren’t, that should be tainted, shouldn’t be allowed

Ross and Rachel

Ross has never deserved Rachel, I’m sorry but it’s true. He was so possessive of her early on considering they weren’t together and he always under estimated her and was such a misogynist. However, I will admit I have no sentimental attachment to Friends because I never really watched it until recently, but watching it now, with a relatively open mind. Ross is a terrible person. He is homophobic, spiteful, rude and much more. Rachel deserved the best.

Stefan and Elena

They are just so boring. That’s it, so bland. Stefan is also basically so obsessed with Elena he almost misses Caroline completely, because he was waiting for Elena to leave Damon for him? Honestly, I would have just picked Caroline from the start.

Ezra and Aria

Their whole story is just so messed up, to know she is 15 and date her, and underage girl because he wants to investigate her, then continues to date her whilst being her teacher and continually lying about it. It is just so yucky. Also, romanticizing them for the entire show is a terrible and potentially predatory message to send to the shows young audience.

Waitlist and Rebecca,

Yes I choose to call him Waitlist…

Also, just boring, I am way more into Waitlist and Laurel. There was no real reason for Wes and Rebecca to actually get together, they didn’t have similar interests or lives, she was so rude to him from the second they met, they were so distrusting of each other. Great show though!

Paige and Emily

They just have no chemistry to me, I also think starting with trying to drown Emily is not the way.

Emily and Alison,

Alison is the worst so that’s that, but she also manipulated Emily countless times, she shouldn’t have gotten back with Alison.

Spencer and JJ

JJ marries Will, has a baby with him and is married to him for years, she works with Spencer that entire time, but then they try to throw something together between them as the show is ending. That is so disrespectful to Will, I love Will, he is the bright shining light saying that you can work at the BAU and have a loving family. We should never negate JJ and Will’s relationship and love.

Spencer and Caleb

Even if Hanna said it was okay it is so iffy for them to get together and they were just a terrible couple which ruins Caleb and Hanna entirely as well as the end of the show. Caleb and Spencer made such good borderline best friends, but it felt so wrong for them to be together which jeopardized Hanna and Spencer’s friendship. Just a bad move for me from the writers. Like come on, Spencer and Caleb could at least have waited til Hanna was actually married.

Izzie on Greys with anyone.

Sorry if you love Izzie or love Izzie and Karev but they are all terrible to me. Look, Denny was her patient so she shouldn’t have crossed that line and in real life I doubt she would have thrown her career away. Alex cheats on her, stands her up, treats her terribly then she gets back with him and they get married, not because either of them should have been married but because she was meant to die. And George was just terrible, awful.

So, I’m sure I could spend years and years adding to this list and remembering more but that felt like enough this time. Let me know your thoughts on any of the couples I have mentioned in the comments, or if you have any couples you hate. I’d love to hear your lists. Don’t forget to like or share this post and you can always follow my socials or this blog to know when I upload. Thanks for reading! Happy Galentine’s Day

Checking out the Dawson’s Creek pilot…

Uncategorized

Dawson’s Creek has always been one of those shows for me which I’ve heard of, or has been referred to, but I never had the opportunity to check it out until now. Recently Dawson’s Creek went up on Aussie Netflix so I thought I’d give it a go and let you know what I think of the pilot. So here goes;

Save up to 50% off boxsets from Sanity

Movies, Music, TV Shows - Shop Online For Great Sales and Fast Delivery.

We are first introduced to Dawson and his friend while they hang out critiquing TV things. So, Dawson himself is a movie buff which is kind of fun since I am clearly very interested in TV shows, so I just thought that was nice.

Then we are introduced to Joey, his life long best friend (right of image), Joey.

I really don’t vibe with this other guy, Pacey, (left of image) so let’s hope he gets better. So far, from just the pilot, everything he has said felt borderline offensive and also he is rude and some other things we will get in to…

Anyway, back to the start Joey breaks to Dawson that they basically aren’t allowed to sleep over together now that they’re 15. So, was it okay last week? If she stays at his every weekend why was it fine last weekend but not this weekend? Seems a bit suspicious to me.

I have heard the consensus is that Dawson is the worst part of Dawson’s Creek (but honestly, James Van Der Beek playing himself in ‘Don’t trust the B in Apartment 23’ is gold), but this is definitely a red flag.

And this too… Like, I know it’s Dawson’s bed, but look at him man-spreading, he is lying down the middle of the bed!

Outer Banks who? Honestly, there might be a bit more worth watching here, I mean, at least in number of episodes there definitely is. So, if you were someone who did happen to like Outer Banks or just like the idea of a small town show for people living on the water maybe this is it!

not my video

This is my main gal. Gotta love a woman who doesn’t take shit from boys and stands up for herself, so far I’m rooting for this girl. But they are trying to make me not like her, you can already see that her standing up for herself against rude men is portraying her as the bitch of the show, which is just so unoriginal. I love this girl, show me more of her honestly because she’s a powerful woman.

Now, these next series of events really threw me, Pacey had met this woman at the video store and flirted with her, which already gave me bad vibes but then, there’s this.

Yikes… “during school hours”

Um, also yikes…

Double yikes, already wondering why all of this was allowed and why the rest of them are friends with Pacey but also, why none of them told him it was super weird to be so into his teacher.

What exactly is going on! She’s his teacher! Also, he is a child. If Joey and Dawson are 15 then so is Pacey so what on Earth is happening in this show. We are only looking at the pilot!

Basically, Joey has been whining and complaining literally the entire show since a new girl showed up, but she was really boring in the episode so if you want to see her wait a few more episodes. I sort of understand where Joey is coming from when she acts like this the whole episode, she is just jealous of Dawson being interested in another girl because of what it could mean for their friendship and she is already worried about their friendship beforehand. And Dawson is kind of instantly obsessed with this girl but he is also just being nice. However, her being so rude and whinny the whole time really doesn’t put me on her side. Although, she is 15 so I guess I can let it slide for now. But, so far my least favourite characters are Pacey and Joey.

We then end with Joey and Dawson deciding they can still be best friends and tell each other anything because they care about each other so much, which is cute. The execution is kind of strange but humorous.

So, on a whole, I would suggest giving Dawson’s Creek a go, it looks decent enough as far as teen shows go. I think the friendship that Dawson and Joey have is also nice and kind of cute but I worry that the point of that is to ruin it. Either way, I think I will keep watching it. If you want an ‘every qualm I have with’ for season 1 let me know and I’ll make one!

My biggest television pet peeves…

Uncategorized

I think it’s probably pretty clear by now that I watch a lot of TV. Hence my having my own dedicated blog. But, there are a multitude of consistent things used in TV shows which really annoy me. So, here is my list of my biggest pet peeves with examples from just a few shows. Hope you enjoy!

You can tell that they almost never fill coffee cups or mugs…

Just fill the coffee cup with water so it’s weighted correctly. That’s it. It is so obvious when the cup is empty cause they practically throw them around because it’s so light. It makes me so angry. Is that just me? It’s like they put the lid on a takeaway cup and think I can’t tell it’s empty.

Women wearing heels all the time!

For instance, women wearing stilettos to high school everyday. That is incredibly unrealistic. Even in superhero shows and crime shows the women have heels on. HEALS ARE NOT EASY TO RUN IN SO I DON’T BELIEVE YOU. Don’t bring young women up in a world which tells us we need to be wearing high heels everywhere to be successful and beautiful, or even just that we should be. I’m talking to you Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl.

I don’t know about you but; if I was in a role which I may need to chase someone (i.e. super hero, police officer, doctor) I don’t think my choice of shoe would be heeled. Maybe that’s just me…

Continuity problems:

For example, How I Met Your Mother didn’t decide that Robin was Canadian until the second season – then they decided she was a Canadian teen pop sensation but she still has issues with her dad having wanted a son in the later seasons and was apparently a tomboy.

Arrow: Now, I never caught up on Arrow so I haven’t finished it to see how they explain this but, Oliver Queen gets trapped on a deserted island, only he doesn’t because it isn’t deserted. But also, there is no one there 5 years later when he is rescued. But also, he goes back to Sterling City for a hot second, and he spends a lot of time in China trying to deal with a bio-weapon. And I’m sure a lot of other stuff. Before he somehow has to go back to the island, sit around there alone growing a beard and setting up his little signal fire, then finally get rescued to go back home. I recognise they probably explain this somehow but it really infuriated me to watch him do all these things not even on the island during the 5 years he was presumed dead. INCLUDING going back to Sterling City and seeing Thea!

Casting way out of the real age range:

We constantly see in Hollywood they cast way above the age they are portraying especially for teens and young adults. This really just skews children and teen’s ideas of how they are supposed to look at a certain age when most of the time those playing 15/16 year old kids are in their mid 20’s. Why can’t we just cast close to the age of the character?

Recasting:

I understand there can be a need to recast actors in the industry because actors choose not to come back or what not but it can be really jarring as a viewer. For example, after several seasons watching Jake T. Austin in ‘The Fosters’ (on Stan), they recast him with Noah Centineo. Jake played that character for years then they just put Noah in and hoped no one would care that much. Especially when it is hard to really play the character the exact same way a different actor did. This same thing happens in Pretty Little Liars where they recast Jason after he made several appearances. It may sometimes be unavoidable but it is still really jarring as a viewer.

We so often see people in shows having super private conversations which cannot be heard by others, happen in rooms full of people!

For instance, the Liars chat about ‘A’ constantly at school and parties and what not, do they really think they are being secretive. Aria constantly talks about Ezra at school when he is a teacher there. The Keating 5 just talk about murder all the time in front of so many people. Yes, none of these people are being spoken to but, people can hear your conversation even if they aren’t trying to listen. I just feel like you wouldn’t realistically talk about having murdered people in public.

Trying to be super sneaky and hidden whilst also shinning a torch everywhere telling everyone where you are…

This happens so often in horror and crime related shows. It really grinds my gears when people are trying to hide from something or corner them and they shine a flashlight down the entire hallway. I understand needing to see but it is really not hidden. If I was hiding from the Police in a dark house with the lights off, the Police shining their torch all around would signal me to where they are in order to continue hiding.

“Slow Burn”:

When a show doesn’t have and interesting beginning or they have to do heaps of exposition. For instance, I tried watching ‘The Witcher’ and only made it 1 episode in because, well, it was boring. Not much really happened in the first episode whilst at the same time they were trying to throw so much information at the audience to set the scene. I personally (and I know many won’t agree) would have preferred if they had done some sort of intro scene or narration to set up the world we are in, like in Avatar the Last Airbender or Vampire Academy, The 100, etc. Sometimes narrative exposition is annoying but if the show is going to throw lots of lore and information about supernatural beings and whatnot, I find it kind of annoying not to. I felt the same in The Haunting of Bly Manor and several other shows. Moral being, your pilot needs to be interesting and exciting but also easy to follow. I don’t want to struggle to understand and interpret what is going on because I won’t finish the show.

Changing your title song part way through the show:

I have seen many shows which have done this and just randomly switched songs or moved to a different version of the same song and I just cant stand it. By the time they change the song I’m already so used to the sound of it that every time after that, when I hear the different version of the song, it puts me off. So, thanks Veronica Mars specifically for this one.

Title sequences that don’t fit:

I feel like some shows make a title sequence before they really realize what the vibe of the show is going to be and the title scene just doesn’t fit. For instance, Pretty Little Liars, I love Pretty Little Liars but I will never understand why they made the title sequence as it was, the colouring wasn’t the same, the song didn’t feel like the right tone for the show, all of it feels off to me.

Similarly, Grey’s Anatomy; I also love Grey’s however, when you go back to the early seasons it is really off putting seeing the Grey’s title sequence as it, for me at least, doesn’t fit the show. The title sequence they put in makes Grey’s look like it is far more sexual than it is, yes there are a lot of relationships and drama in Grey’s but there is also a hell of a lot of medicine and the title scene, if I hadn’t seen the show first, would have made me not want to watch the show because of the message and vibe it gives off.

She’s the only girl who doesn’t throw herself at me, so I like her…

What a tired storyline which is really quite disgusting when you think about it. Let’s consider just recently, the entire premise of the Kissing Booth was he liked her because everyone else wanted him, gross! This also kind of perpetuates that most girls will just throw themselves at an attractive man which is just disrespectful. Complex characters please!

One best friend has always loved the other – then they date…

I really hate this one too. Just think of a better plot because if one friend has always loved the other, and the other never saw them that way then why do they deserve to suddenly realize how great their friend is, why didn’t they notice before.

And obviously we can’t forget;

Main Character syndrome…

But, I’ll spare y’all from hearing this one again, if you want to know more about this one check out my post here:

Now, I’m sure that isn’t all the pet peeves I have but it’s all I could think of for this post. Please comment yours down below and whether any of mine made it on to your list! I’d love if you checked out some or my other posts of my socials down below:

Every reason I could find for why Derek Shepherd is the worst…

Uncategorized

I’m sure everyone has seen the recent hype around Patrick Dempsey’s return to Greys Anatomy this past week. So, I thought now was the perfect time to remind everyone of who Derek really was…

https://t.cfjump.com/73456/t/32550?Url=https%3a%2f%2fwww.sanity.com.au%2fsearch%3fsanquery%3dgrey%2527s%2banatomy%26sanse%3dunbxd

Grey’s Anatomy is obviously an incredibly successful medical show, one of several 2005 hit tv shows. It has recently been announced that Grey’s will run at least until 17 seasons. However, some would put a lot of the shows success on Patrick Dempsey and the ‘McDreamy’ facade. However, I just can’t agree. I can’t understand why it is constantly said that Derek is a good guy. It’s like they think if we hear that he’s a good guy enough then we will believe it despite all the evidence against it. I hate Derek Shepherd. I always have and probably always will. I don’t get the McDreamy hype or the Derek and Meredith hype but I will concede that the show isn’t as good after Derek dies. But I don’t put that down to Derek I think the vibe just shifts, and Meredith gets worse in my opinion after he dies. However, it truly amazes me how many terrible things he does during his run on the show. So, here’s every reason I could find for why Derek Shepherd is the worst….

  1. Doesn’t tell Meredith he’s married…

2. If we didn’t know Meredith liked Derek back, him pestering her is sexual harassment. Also he is her superior and could be using his power over her and her career. Just because they met first and had a one night stand doesn’t mean she doesn’t feel pressured and harassed.

3. Drags Meredith along for the ride then chooses Addison. Also, makes Meredith ‘a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her’ which I just hate.

4. Neglects Addison. Derek admits to neglecting Addison before she cheated and when he chose to stay with her and they started therapy.

5. Also slut shames Meredith which is a real class act in my opinion.

6. Cheats on Addison with Meredith at the Prom, whilst also basically shitting on Meredith right before it blaming her for him not wanting Addison.

7. Gets shitty at Meredith for almost dying, as if her being in an accident and dying is about Derek. It’s too much for him. He has no idea what actually happened, how long she was in the water, for all he knows she could have hit her head on the way down or the hypothermia got too much or you know, its not easy to tread water for hours. For all Derek knows she did try and she just couldn’t hold on. “She gave up, she knows how to swim” YOU DON’T KNOW THAT DEREK. YOU’RE MAKING IT UP.

8. Tells Meredith she’s emotionally broken!

9. Almost cheats on Meredith with Lexi then acts like hes a good guy cause he didn’t when he tells Meredith in order to hurt her.

10. I’ll wait for you unless I meet someone else… excuse me what!

11. Doesn’t want to give Meredith any credit for the clinical trial. Yes, Derek is the senior on the project but it was Meredith’s idea which she brought to him and did all the initial research on and did minimum half of the work with the patients (probably more). She also is the only reason they had a success because she pushed for the extra 1 patient. Meredith could have brought her idea and research to someone else but Derek is the God and Derek will always be bigger and better and like Christina said “he’s not the sun” even though he acts like it every chance he gets.

12. Cheats on Rose with Meredith. So now we’re 2 for cheating and 1 for not (Lexi, but I’d suggest more like 0.5 since he considered it)…

13. Does try to steal Chief from Webber… more than once….

14. The throwing the ring in Meredith’s face.

15. Tells Meredith she’d be a terrible mother! As if he would know.

16. ‘Why is the chief spending time with you and not talking to me, he’s trying to get to me’. No Derek, maybe Meredith is just good, maybe the Chief sees more in her than just an intern. Granted that whole alcoholism thing was going on but that doesn’t make it the reason. Because, Meredith is a good surgeon.

17. The whole thing with Zola when Derek practically left her because she was trying to save Adele’s life and they almost lost Zola. Derek knows that Richard is like a father to Meredith and Adele has always been kind to Meredith despite her mother having an affair with Richard. So, obviously she would want to give Adele any chance to live. If it was someone else she wouldn’t have done it but for Derek having known Richard and Adele for years, he should understand what Meredith did.

18. Derek is rude to everyone, all the time. I’ll say it again, you can’t just say he’s a good guy and trick people into thinking it’s true. Everyone is always saying Derek is a good guy – show me where, when, give me an example, please.

19. Derek is mean to his sisters, specifically Amelia. Yes, Amelia is an addict who has made mistakes but she is also a neurosurgeon and she is trying her best to manage her addiction, Derek doesn’t need to constantly belittle her.

20. Derek giving Owen shit about the plane crash constantly. As if Owen could have predicted a plane crash? Yes, he signed a document changing airlines however, Derek had that job, he knows how much paperwork there is and the assistant just hands you pages to sign. That’s the job, the hospital is broke and has been for years.

21. Named his kid after himself, now I didn’t know this until I looked it up but Bailey’s real first name is Derek. Derek Bailey Shepherd, tell me why?

22. Derek’s career will always be more important than Meredith’s.

Credit to Buzzfeed for image

23. Everything to do with the brain mapping project:
– going back on his word to give Meredith time for her career

-moving away to do the project

-trying to steal the sensors Derek worked on with Callie and destroying her research

-Went away, claimed he was changing his mind for his family then was only being spiteful towards Meredith before she finally made him leave. After she told him that was what was going to happen.

Credit to Buzzfeed for image

24. Derek tries to steal the job he got Amelia because on a whim he decided to leave the project. In doing so, allows her to be outed as an addict and doesn’t defend her. How is this a ‘good guy’? Please someone explain it to me!

25. DID CHEAT ON MEREDITH WITH THE RESEARCH ASSISTANT! Did we all just forget that because he came back? So, that’s 3 for cheating to 0.5 for not!!

Now, I don’t know about you but I think that is quite a list. Obviously I couldn’t sift through 12 years of episodes just to find individual lines when he was being terrible, but I still think that is quite an impressive list don’t you? From this list I think it is clear that Derek is a cheater, manipulative, arrogant, rude and down right spiteful for all 12 seasons he is on Greys. So, while I agree the show wasn’t as good, or at least wasn’t the same without him, I prefer the parts in those seasons which he wasn’t in. Also, the few seasons leading up to Derek’s death when he was being the absolute worst I feel like weren’t as good as the old days either. But, hey, that’s just my personal opinion. I’d love to hear yours! Do you still stan Derek and Meredith? Do you think he is McDreamy? I’d love to know.

I personally would say I’m a McSteamy stan myself, Mark is great and I will happily write a post about that if anyone is interested just comment down below.

Thanks so much for reading! Don’t forget to check out my socials.

‘Love Life’ is super depressing…

Uncategorized

Okay, so for any who didn’t see; Anna Kendrick starred in a new show in 2020 called ‘Love Life’ which followed Anna Kendrick’s character, Darby, going through her young adulthood trying to find love. Now, I love Anna Kendrick ,I really do, and I think she was great in this but ‘Love Life’ wasn’t for me. Anna Kendrick is great however, this has nothing to do with her. Each episode we watch Darby in a different time in her life. Forewarning, I did not finish the show because it was making me feel a bit depressed to be honest. So this is just my interpretation from what I did see.

So, firstly, let me say, the acting in ‘Love Life’ is not bad and neither is the plot or story-line. I have no issues with these aspects. I honestly kind of love them showing a woman in her adulthood who doesn’t have everything figured out. Some of these romantic interests just ended because the people were at different points in their lives or wanted different things. I think it was really honest and I applaud them for that. They had Darby being a strong woman with a career and it wasn’t easy for Darby to find her love.

So, in the beginning of watching the show I felt like it was kind of cute. I enjoyed watching Anna Kendrick finding love however, it isn’t that simple. Like I said, the show is honest. However, for those who don’t know (spoiler) each episode shows Darby’s relationship with a different person. So, because of that, every episode we watch Darby find someone, be happy and inevitably break up with them. This was hard for me to watch, this isn’t a long show and for each episode to be such an emotional roller-coaster for the audience was a lot.

I definitely understand why they did this and it does show some realities about relationships and love, but, as a viewer it was confronting. To watch this cute relationship and happiness come crashing down and hurting them, every 40 minutes. I just couldn’t take it.

That said, there are lots of good aspects to this show, for instance, we watch Darby growing with her friends in a realistic way as their lives change. We watch Darby coming to terms with who she is and who she wants to be and succeeding in her career.

So, this post is not intended to tell you not to watch ‘Love Life’ but it is to somewhat shed some light on what it is really about and how it made me feel. As I was watching these relationships turn bad or people treat Darby poorly, it made me feel really low and depressed and I soon realized I wasn’t going to stop seeing and feeling these things until the end. So, I didn’t finish it. But maybe you will. ‘Love Life’ is available on Aussie Stan if you want to check it out, but this one just wasn’t for me, and that’s totally okay. I respect what they were trying to do here and I respect the honesty but it just made me sad watching it.

Let me know your thoughts on ‘Love Life’ if you watched it! I’d love to know what other people thought. Thanks for reading, come back next week for a new post.

My problem with ‘The 100’…

Uncategorized

I watched ‘The 100’ relatively recently after having tried to watch it a few times in the past. I will say, I honestly do like ‘The 100’, I have enjoyed watching it and I’m excited to watch the final season once it is available on Australian Netflix, so I have currently only watched the first 6 seasons. But, I do definitely have some problems with it.

Firstly, much like my 13 Reasons Why post, access here if you haven’t checked it out yet; https://simplymythoughts.blog/2020/09/05/my-problem-with-13-reasons-why/

I feel like, ‘The 100’ deviated from their initial story line a lot. ‘The 100’ starts out basically about whether a bunch of kids can survive and create a livable society without adults (much like The Society, Under the Dome, The Rain, and Between), granted there was all that stuff on the Ark but honestly I didn’t care about that at all. Then we throw in the grounders – fair enough, I guess if you’re telling me they survived fine but I wonder how from the Ark they couldn’t tell there were people down there. But fine, if that’s what they want to say, okay.

But then, by season 3 ‘The 100’ just became so political. Granted some might say it was always political with the Ark and the grounders but suddenly in season 3 there is whole clans of grounders from all around who each have their own government and treaties and a coup to overthrow Lexa. What happened to just surviving on the ground and creating a society. The entire third season was just politics and honestly that is why I struggled to get through ‘The 100’ the first few times. The sudden appearance of hundreds if not thousands of grounders who were living, not that far from Arkadia?

I also can’t say I enjoyed the whole AI story line. It was just really annoying and dumb for me, I didn’t like it and it went on for so long. In my opinion, the only reason for the AI season being put in was so they could shift the story line basically to the few guys in the sky, Clarke on the ground and ‘Wonkru’. So, why did I need to watch all that AI crap?

Then they basically just repeat the entire story line, if we’re being honest, the prisoners coming down and taking over a piece of land vs the Wonkru is literally just season 1 over again. Now, I enjoyed this plot and all. I really did. I like the later seasons but I can’t ignore that they kind of recycled the early story line.

So, we watched the AI try and turn everyone to save them from the 2nd doomsday just to re-watch season 1 but basically from the grounders perspective.

Like I said, I really liked the later seasons (reminder I haven’t seen 7), but when you look back, where they are by season 6 is almost and entirely different show. They deviated literal planets away from where they started!

I also just really don’t care for Clarke, but I guess that’s a personal thing and maybe lots of fans like her – but I really have never liked Clarke and I can’t figure out why.

Another thing I just can’t understand and I would love for someone to explain if they know is; how do the grounders survive the initial radiation? So according to the 2nd radiation explosion only Nightbloods can survive the radiation as proven by Clarke and Maddy. However, would that not mean for the grounders to survive to begin with they would have all needed to be Nightbloods, which means that no regular bleeders could survive the radiation therefore Nightblood could not be bred out to become so rare and important? I don’t know honestly, someone please tell me because didn’t the Nightblood come from Becca?

Lets also talk about language. So, all the grounders still speak English as far as we can see, which means they likely spoke English before Praimfaya, also the mountain men speak English so that leads me to believe the land they are on is an English speaking country (if we’re being honest there is no way the show didn’t drop the Ark and the 100 on U.S. soil). SO, this begs the question of why they created their own language. It had only been 97 years in space for the Ark so in that time we are to believe that Becca came back down, gave chips to some of the grounders (remembering Becca spoke English too), they created whole legends about Becca and a new language whilst still speaking English. Seems suspicious to me…

So, although I really enjoy ‘The 100’ season 1 and 2 and the later seasons, I can’t say I don’t have a bit of a problem with how much the show changed. When I first watched ‘The 100’ season 1 it was a show about kids trying to live on the ground after having never seen the ground in their lifetimes, now it’s about kids on space ships with prisoners and AI’s and they aren’t even on Earth. I get that maybe you can’t have as much run time when it’s just about them trying to survive but it just bugs me. Let me know if you disagree because I know many people may, but those were my problems with ‘The 100’. I look forward to hopefully seeing season 7 soon on Netflix.
